Let's do everything!

I just spent half a day migrating my homeserver from NixOS to NixOS hosted on Proxmox. I couldn’t resist experimenting with Proxmox after reading about all the shiny things it could do.

My ultimate goal was to have a simpler back-up and restore scheme. Currently, it was a complicated mess composed of restic and btrfs, doing god knows what, which only codex could understand.

Previously, this would’ve been a whole month worth of work, wherein I would enthusiastically read all the documentation, lose hope of ever understanding the system in all its details, and then start patching snippets from github to make things work.

Now, it’s an hour or two of prompting. I could build the most magnificnet edifices. Multi-cluster HA deployment of Proxmox, with fine grained ACL, and a robust backup scheme.

But, it feels like a soulless endeavour. A purely mechanical pursuit devoid of all the excitement that it once held.

Maybe this is the goal that’s beneficial for the masses. Make the process mechanical rather than bespoke. Focus on the end product.

Action on all the ideas, experience none of the fun.
